An authority is just the name of a source of software.

A repository is a location to retrieve software from, such as http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev.

There is no interface intended for end users other than the command line or GUI. However, if you look at /var/pkg/cfg_cache, you'll see where this information is currently stored. Be aware that this can and will change so you should not rely on this file or its contents.
