I want to move my OS (rpool) to a different disk. It's all a pretty new install but I have gotten enough updates and config edits in place that I'd not like to re-install from 2008.11 101b.
Can I use `dd' for that task or is that likely to have problems with zfs? Is there a better way? The move is from a partition of 25gb on a 60gb disk to a partition of 500gb on a 500gb disk. Can I just create a zpool on a whole disk parition on the new disk and rsync the data over, then use installgrub to write the boot manager bits to the mbr of the new disk? Then boot it up ...? If these all sound pretty crazy its because my whole background is almost all linux with a little windows thrown in, and even less with a long ago Solaris x86 circa 2001 or so... and only briefly. Anyway, please enlighten me as to how an old Osol hand would do it? _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
