I don't believe the issue is that he is using a Mac laptop, but that he is using OSX instead of Solaris/OpenSolaris. Sun (sadly) doesn't make laptops, so he is obviously going to use another vendor's product for that. However Sun does make operating systems that can run on other vendor's laptops, so he should be using them.
