Correct. If you continue delving into Solaris, you will need to learn this 
sooner or later, so better sooner than later.

So that you might reach at least CMM level 2: consistently repeatable.

You'll also learn a lot through the whole adventure: about processes 
(workflows), about process modeling, about WHAT NOT TO DO, and about what to 
do, and of course about syslogd(1M), packaging, and logrotate(1M). Even for an 
enthusiast, it will make you more productive in your tinkering. And it might 
very well be fun, too.
