Are you running OpenSolaris 2008.11 or Solaris Express Community edition? In 
OpenSolaris 2008.11 there is a "Remote Desktop" button in the GNOME desktop. 
Just click on it and it starts the VNC server (I think default is a Java VINO 
VNC server that you can view in any web browser, but there's also a regular VNC 
server as well).
