Hi all,

Have started playing with OpenSolaris 8.11 which I downloaded recently and have
had some success. My goal is to build an iSCSI target for a number of other
servers/users. So far, I have managed to set up a basic zfs iscsi share that
my Mac can access, format and use which is great.

There are a few things I need to ask before I go much further:

1) The tutorials I have found so far either do not mention iscsi target server
software installation or gloss over it and I am trying to guess what I need to
install. In my searching I have seen people refer to Express editions,
implying they are more complete in terms of file server stuff like iscsi being
prebundled. Is this the case? Basically - should I stop now with the standard
OpenSolaris 8.11 and move over to Express or whatever or is everything I need
available for OpenSolaris 8.11?

2) What am I doing wrong? I have now tried this 8.11 setup on two legacy
servers I have available but both times the iscsi transfer rates using my Mac
as an initiator are very very slow (1 or 2 MB per sec max). Are there any
guides, resources or suggestions that could help me optimise the setup/speed.

Both servers are using a Sil3124 card with two SATA 7200rpm drives striped
together using zfs. The first server I tried was a Dell PowerEdge 650
(2GHz-ish with 1GB RAM) but have now moved to a Dell PowerEdge 1800 (3GHz Xeon
with 4.5GB RAM). OS for both installed on a third, separate drive.

As you can tell I am very new to this so if I have not included enough info
please let me know.

Thanks.
