I'd been waiting for snv_115 for awhile, because before that, no decent audio ever worked for me under VirtualBox (on a 2GHz Mac Mini with 3GB RAM). Neither the normal audio810 driver nor an alternative audioi810 driver, nor 4Front OSS would produce acceptable results; at best, speed was off and a lot was being dropped.
Before I go further, if you were running something older than (I think) snv_114 before (I did a LiveUpgrade from snv_108), you definitely need to first update to the very latest VirtualBox _and_ update the guest additions, or you'll have problems. I'd forgotten to update the guest additions first, and things got a tad ugly - needed failsafe boot (snv_115 had crashed) and remove the old guest additions. If I'd updated them first, I'm reasonably sure it would have been painless. Right now, I'm listening to an uncompressed CD-rip of Stairway to Heaven; it sounds perfect. That's just using audioplay (old SADA interface, I presume). However, if I try the ossplay executable (only! do _not_ install OSS on top of Boomer!) from the latest 4Front oss package (after using pkgtrans to convert the single-file package to a directory tree format somewhere safe, like in /var/tmp), that (using the OSS interface) also works perfectly. So as far as running Solaris under VirtualBox is concerned, I'm very pleased with Boomer! Is there a bundled audio player that can handle .mp3 (perhaps with the help of the Fluendo gstreamer plugin)? More specifically, if there is one, has anyone tried it under VirtualBox successfully? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
