It's possible to upgrade from SXCE to OpenSolaris doing the installation on a second hard drive. I did it a week ago on my Ultra 60 by following roughly the recipe here:
http://blogs.sun.com/edp/entry/moving_from_nevada_and_live after installing IPS from source (you need to install some modules like openssl and simpljson on SXCE) : http://blogs.sun.com/migi/entry/building_ips_on_opensolaris and finally you will have to make bootable the disk on which you install 2009.06. Look here for reference: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=104555&tstart=0 Regards, a.
