I think you can expect to get a performance hit when you run ZFS in 32-bit mode instead of in 64-bit mode (think about it- the very idea of running a 128 bit file system on a 32-bit kernel doesn't sound like it would bode well for performance).
The one good thing I will say about OpenSolaris in 32-bit mode is that the GNOME desktop does sometimes seem (at least subjectively) a little snappier and more responsive than in 64-bit mode and it does use the available RAM less aggressively.... but yeah, for high performance servers running ZFS you definitely want 64-bits. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
