hark Hi there. You 'recipes' look interesting. I recently started using OpenSolaris. The actual reason was because I had a Compact Flash card so I got a CF-IDE adaptor to install a Linux and not one distro, I tried about 10, would install. But OpenSolaris did. The only problem at the start was sound but OSS sorted that out.
I use ScummVM and DOSbox a lot. So I can get the most recent stable ScummVM Solaris from the web site. But I'd like to build it myself as I like testing the new features. I've built ScummVM for Windows before with the help of some pre-compiled libs. I just had to put them in the right folders and click 'build'. But when I look through the instructions for building from scratch for Unix-like operating systems it looks impossible. I've read so many instructions for building different applications and they all seem to assume that all the person needs to know is where to get a file or where to put a file or just make or just configure. I've not seen one tutorial where it is assumed that the person only knows the basics of computing. Time and time again when I try this stuff I get stuck and even when I ask on a forum the answers I get aren't helpful. I'm not new to computers. I'm in my 40s and I've been using them since the days of CP/M before DOS. I know how to use one. Right I've had my moan. As I don't know if I can build a new version of ScummVM I thought I'd try to use a .deb build which is updated every 24 hours. I've read it's suppose to be easy to convert to it to OpenSolaris. Well after a few hours I was getting nowhere. Then I thought why not try the Win32 unstable version also updated every 24 hours. Use it with Wine. So it's started but - no sound. I came across your post after a bit of Googling. Is there any way you could simplify it? The requisites for example. Do I need to know about them? Do I need to hunt all those files down online? Next the configure warnings. Do I need to know about them? Next the 3 lines starting with pfexec. Can I just start here? I take it I need to be root. OK now to the underlined Build part. Looks like a load of stuff for the terminal? Then all the lines up to EOF under 'Package'. Do I put all those into a terminal? The rest of it. I'm not sure. Any help you can offer Hark I'd appreciate. Ideally I'd like to work out how to build ScummVM for OSolaris. I have trouble getting my head around the libs needed. For example you can build ScummVM with stuff like Ogg support. From my package manager I can see I have libogg. Is that all I need or do I need a different Ogg? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
