I love Ada! It's a very under-rated programming language IMO. I've never programmed in Ada on Solaris though. Does anybody know of any good Ada compilers and Ada programming "HOW TO's" written for Solaris (SUNWada anyone)? If you can get the source code for Whitakers words and get the Ada compiler, we could probably just compile a native Solaris version of it. Looks like there was some work done on a Sys V package for the GNU Ada compiler for Solaris here: http://gnuada.sourceforge.net/pmwiki.php/Install/Solaris but, it looks like it was only for SPARC and it looks like it's not maintained, so it might not be a good idea to try using it. I know a good Ada compiler for Solaris has to exist because a lot of mission-critical apps are written in Ada and probably run on Solaris SPARC since it's a preferred mission-critical OS. However, the last time I did anything in Ada was many years ago using the "ObjectAda" compiler on Windows NT 4 (ugh). Maybe there's someone here who has more up to date information about what's been going on in the world of Ada development recently on the Solaris platform in the last few years. I tried googling for "Object Ada" and "Solaris" to see if there was a place where I could buy or download the compiler, and instead of finding the "Buy it now" link, I was directed to the U.S. Air Force's web page: https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&tab=core&id=e9ca40fc86c6eb3b75acfc9876b22c79&_cview=1&cck=1&au=&ck= not what I was looking for! I'm guessing if I can ever find the ObjectAda for Solaris web page, it's going to be only available for Solaris SPARC, right? Nevermind, I was googling and typing this message at the same time, and I think I found the official ObjectAda for Solaris web page here: http://www.aonix.com/objectada_unix.html#unix Looks like you can request an evaluation copy. I think it's time, we as a community checked to make sure that ObjectAda supports OpenSolaris, you guys up to it? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
