This is still an issue after updating to 2009.06, and then all subsequent
updates. Actually, I didn't even realize it was the network that was slow - I
thought my slow zfs sends were because of my old FreeBSD box (had frustrating
ZFS issues there - anyhoo).

I decided to FTP my old database to my new OpenSolaris box:
backup.sql.gz 100% 163MB 2.2MB/s 01:15

That's not right. So I FTPd the same file to an identical machine running
FreeBSD 7.1:
backup.sql.gz 100% 163MB 40.8MB/s 00:04

Neither machine has any load and are as follows:
Asus M3A78-CM with 8GB Ram and 2 80gb SATA HDs mirrored.
Actually there is one difference. The OpenSolaris box uses an LSI 1204 to
mirror the drives, the FreeBSD box uses gmirror. The OpenSolaris box also has
10 SATA in a zfs RAID 10, so I wrote the file to that array and got the same
results:
backup.sql.gz 100% 163MB 2.1MB/s 01:17

Now unfortunately this isn't the first problem I had with this NIC and
OpenSolaris, so I already had a 3c5x9 (the best card on the planet, IMHO -
though maybe not the fastest) in there for testing. Thanks to previous poster
for the tip on fixing the network drops. Believe it or not, the 3c5x9 was
getting dropped as well under load. So I brought up the 3c5x9 and ran FTP
again:
backup.sql.gz 100% 163MB 10.2MB/s 00:16

Same wire - I just downed the old interface, and brought the IP from the rge0
up on the elxl1.

The 3c5x9 is only a 100Mb card, so this is really about the throughput I would
expect. There most definitely is still an issue with the rge driver.
