Your suggestion for clone-repository, while
understandable, is not
practical.
Why isn't it practical?
It is far more efficient to provide a pre-generated image (as was
recently provided for 2009.06) that can be redistributed anywhere via
BitTorrent, ftp, http, etc. than overburdening the package servers with
requests from thousands of users for 7.2 GiB+ (and growing) of data.
Seems like a narrow focus on the actual purpose. So the main pkg
repository could be made non-cloneable but the images provided could be
clones of the repository - retrieve as you will which could then be
cloned inside a customer site.
The images provided are a clone of the repository -- for a single build.
You might wish to re-read the announcement.
That is the supported solution; there are no plans for a clone
repository command.
Despite your belief otherwise, the enterprise case and other issues have
been evaluated, and that is why the ISO image is being provided.
Additional transport options will also be added to the package system in
the future for enterprise deployments.
Cheers,
