On Thursday I had a 1.5G firefox dump core. While it was writing out the core, I pretty much had to walk away from from my workstation for about ten minutes. The pointer would move, but only occasionally and with massive lag. Several other applications (Evolution for example) grayed out because compiz thought they might be dying. At one point, compiz froze while rotating the desktop cube.

This is on a Dell Precision 7400, a quad-core 2GHz machine with around 4G of RAM running b121.

Lots of I/O murdering desktop performance is something I've noticed for quite a while. I should note, however, that I've not really made any attempt to tune ZFS on this machine.
