yes, there are now two 8086,10f0 devices out there.
PCI express
vendor: 8086 ("Intel Corporation"), device: 10f0 ("82578DC Gigabit Network

and PCI

So at first it is intels fault to reuse pci ids.

is the definition

valid? If I a had a PRO/100+ and a 82578DC in my System would both drivers get
loaded?
No, the e1000g is unable to identify the 82555. dmesg says:
e1000g: [ID 801725 kern.warning] WARNING: pci8086,10f0 - e1000g[1] : Identify
hardware failed
