well you seems to be a power bsd user XD and well im intriged about bsd too, but well here is the truth. mmm i dont exactly want osol cuz is sun or cuz is superb, actually i have worked with solaris 5-10 in sparc and well i never actually loved it, actually was something like "tech guy we need to change the ip of this server !... me -- inside my head "noooooo #...@#%@#...@!@#" ---mmm ok give me a couple of hours " on the other hand linux for me always have been pretty neat, especially debian (i loved debian a bit more than google). i dont refer to linux kernel per se but all the software i have available. so why i wanna try osol so badly cuz i cant get dtrace, crossbow and zfs in linux, why dont i port it well i dont like linux kernel too much either, dont get me wrong i believe is a really nice flexible kernel maybe not like bsd but i hate the fact linux never get an abi stable release, so after any minimal change to the codebase in the kernel i have to spent a month figuring o ut hot to get hardware to work again, and well some years ago wasnt so importart but now that hardware changes almost every month they cant keep it up, aka from few weeks of merge window you need to spend half only making compilation fixes lol.
now if i can get zfs, dtrace and something similar to ipf and crossbow in bsd then count me in :) and i heard gcd come to bsd from apple too. in reality i dint give it a proper chance to open bsd's cuz i really hated the original from some years ago, except some audio test in a studio to check audio quality but certainly the bsd licence well look hell better to me than cddl. so ill appreciate any advise on open bsd's i can live with the sound issues, hell if i like it i can even port alsa to bsd in my free time -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
