I originally was kinda against this split focus, but it has proved to be very useful, and I happily admit having misplaced concerns.
"ordinary" users of any thing called Foo tend to first go to "foo.com" - which, given that opensolaris.com provides the latest stable release and some additional standard info, works well for them. opensolaris.org works as a community (which is what an .org is /supposed/ to be for) gathering point, and as such, makes sense to host development work there.
