I find Solaris technically superior to the alternatives for more sophisticated
production use, for reasons mentioned already. However I would be reluctant to
make major commitments to it if you're not already using it, until the fallout
from the Oracle merger settles. It may well work out just fine, and I hope it
does, but given Oracle's lousy communications, it's going to take 6 months to a
year to be confident what is really going on.
