It depends on the type of virtualization one needs.  If you only need the same 
kernel, then lightweight Solaris Zones, AIX WPARs, or FreeBSD Jails will suit 
the task at hand.

However, if one needs to run different versions of the kernel or different 
versions of the OS (Solaris 8/9/10 or AIX 5.2/5.3/6.1), then Solaris Logical 
Domains or AIX LPARs are the suitable approach.

SUN also had (not sure if they still do, but I'd think yes) Dynamic System 
Domains which are isolated hard partitions.

Of all the above virtualization technologies, the only one I haven't used is 
Solaris Logical Domains.  The others I've used and all are great technologies.  

Use the technology that will help you meet and achieve your goals.
