An operating system that is 14-months-old is a relic and as good as dead.

Look at my other post showing release dates of other operating systems and only
OpenSolaris has had no releases.

Oracle specifically said in an article they would not include some technologies
in OpenSolaris they develop for Solaris 10. This indicates an R&D budget for
Solaris 10, so I'd question the need for R&D on OpenSolaris, when some of the
OpenSolaris technologies aren't included in Solaris 10 (e.g., Crossbow).
Solaris 10 makes money, so R&D makes sense, but to spend capital on OpenSolaris
doesn't strike me as something Ellison is willing to do.

Of course there will be some who say OpenSolaris is dev for Solaris 10.
Really; then I'd like to have an explanation about why Oracle explicitly states
they are doing R&D on Solaris 10 (preceding paragraph), when that should be
done in OpenSolaris. Isn't OpenSolaris dev for Solaris 10? Seems a waste of
money to do development on both.

Waiting for the next OpenSolaris release is like waiting for your ex-wife to
come back. It isn't going to happen, and even if it does, what about the
future, and will she stay?
