I wanted initially to be in the Electronic Security Command, but that wasn't available for enlistees (prior-only), so security police was my next choice, but the recruiter told me all tech school slots were filled and I would have to wait a year! Not wanting to do that, and not wanting a desk job, he said firefighting was a criticial skill in short supply, so I took it and left for basic training a few weeks later. My luck, I was in the only all-male BMTS; all others were coed.
