Actually, Yahoo! is an acronym "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle," which about summed things up.
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/misc/history.html insofar as UNIX goes, it actually does make sense if you consider what MULTICS stands for: MULTiplexed Information and Computing Service UNICS (the original name) is ofcourse: UNiplexed Information and Computing Service.
