Face the fact that OpenSolaris is dead and has been since March 2010. Either get behind Solaris 10 and its heir apparent, or find another operating system besides Solaris-based.
The reason OpenSolaris had as large a user base and downloads as it did was because Sun supported a binary release. OpenSolaris was the de facto open source Solaris. Illumos is not a binary distribution of an open Solaris and the other offspring such as Nexenta, Schillix, don't have a large enough user base - and likely never will - that can keep this thing going. These distributions are like PC-BSD and DragonflyBSD which have their following and are good forks of BSD, but they don't have a large user base and are smaller in development. These branches will ever reach the level of adoption as OpenBSD, NetBSD, and FreeBSD, and neither will Nexenta or Schillix ever reach the level of adoption of OpenSolaris. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
