But on a Sol 10 Sparc box for example, you can see corrected ECC memory errors 
in the messages file (if any occur) so the OS at some level is aware of what is 
going on in the hardware. If x86 hardware does not provide this functionality 
then if you have a failing dimm you won't know about it until it gets an 
uncorrectable error and the box panics?
