It made much more sense to start with x86, since there are a lot more of
them out there, especially ones available for non-production use, where
most SPARC customers would not be ready to try out a new operating
system while it was under development and not ready for production use.

SPARC support started in 2009.06 and is planned to improve as
OpenSolaris gets closer to being fully enterprise-ready.
