Good Afternoon all,

I passed on 8.11 because I didn't think it was mature enough.

I installed 0906 on my "testing" partition and it looks like this version
leaves me with only a couple of obstacles to overcome.

Obstacle #1: I have two applications that I use in work related activities that
rely on DirectX. Under Linux, VMWare handled both of these applications well.
Under VirtualBox 3.04 where Linux was the host and Windows XP x32 was the
guest, neither application would operate at all.

It doesn't appear that VMWare supports OpenSolaris at all. How do I get these
apps to run with DirectX support under OpenSolaris? I mean I could dual boot,
but I'd rather be consolidated under one OS if at all possible. If I dual boot,
then I have the issue of getting the data into OpenSolaris. I don't see
anything in the repository about a Solaris version of ntfs-3g, so I am assuming
that OpenSolaris cannot R/W NTFS if I have to dual boot.

Obstacle #2: On a personal note, I have a large collection of DVD's of which my
favorites are ripped and put on the HDD. I see that there is a method to obtain
codecs legally, but I do not see a mechanism to do the initial ripping from DVD
to HDD, and I understand that playing a DVD is not possible under OpenSolaris.

How do I get there? Adding a Linux/Windows VM with shared folders to do this
seems kinda upside down to me for this task....

Any assistance, comments, help is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Dave
