You can use either samba or the solaris cifs in-kernel server - not both.

Both are managed with the 'svcadm' command.

You can also check the status of each with the command 'svcs samba'
for samba and 'svcs smb' for the in-kernel bits.

These should work more easily than the Blastwave package (that's
intended more for those who want to really tweak things).  I'm
assuming you are using OpenSolaris 2008.11?
