I bought an <a
href="http://www.intel.com/Products/Desktop/Motherboards/DQ35JO/DQ35JO-overview.htm";>Intel
 DQ35JO</a> motherboard thinking it would be pretty ideal for a ZFS server. 6
SATA ports, low-power GMA3100 graphics, e1000g ethernet.  It's even <a
href="http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/systems/details/3323.html";>in the
HCL</a> as verified working.
<p/>
Unfortunately things didn't go very well tonight. Halfway through the install
a bunch of junk <a
href="http://flickr.com/photos/mrneutron/2676708728/";>appears on the lower
third of the screen</a>, and then the install crashes. The GMA3100 has no
dedicated vram, and splits off some of the main memory for video. It looks a
lot like solaris is just writing data into the video area.
<p/>
There's a line in the BIOS for "<a
href="http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel915g/sb/CS-011683.htm";>DVMT</a>
 Mode" which I set to "fixed", thinking that I might make things simpler but no
luck; I still get the junk on my screen and a crash. Very disappointing. Any
suggestions, apart from just returning the board and buying a non-integrated
board and a video card with dedicated vram?
