Assuming you had Ubuntu's version of grub installed in the MBR, the simplest
way to get access to Ubuntu is to add it to the Solaris grub boot menu. You'll
probably need to boot from the Ubuntu install CD and have a look at the
menu.lst on your Linux partition to figure out what you need to add to Solaris'
GRUB.

Solaris cannot be booted from the GRUB that comes with Linux for 2 reasons:

1. Linux distros tend not to include support for BSD/Solaris "sub-partitions"
a.k.a. slices. Ubuntu is one that doesn't.
2. Linux GRUB doesn't have support for accessing ZFS root filesystems.

That said, you can chainload Solaris GRUB from Linux GRUB should you so wish.

Cheers

Andrew.
