This is a bug introduced in the FreeType 2.3.6 upgrade in build 93.
It should be fixed with the FreeType 2.3.7 upgrade coming in build 96.
Until then, my laptop fonts got better by going into the Appearance
preferences in GNOME, going to the font panel, and choosing the
"Best Shapes" option.

Yes - on Solaris, i810 is just a link to the intel driver, so they're
the same.
