OK, so it doesn't appear to be a kernel or driver issue; I assume on a reboot the printer device /dev/printers/0 is still present and usable. > I think that there must be a file that somehow gets lost... Which name service did you choose when you installed Solaris? That is, which name sevice databases are configured for the "printers" database in /etc/nsswitch.conf?
