I am thinking of building NAS with the following mini ITX Board: http://www.itxdepot.com/xcart/product.php?productid=2089&cat=32140&page=1
It seems like a nice board for this purpose. It is FANLESS, has 4 SATA, 2 Gigabyte Lan and can take up to 2 gigs of memory. It is $145 which seems reasonable. It even includes an IDE slot. I have several questions. Does this seem like a good board or is there a better board? They sell SSD that will fit on the IDE should I get an SSD module? If so how big and what is the best way to use it? Also, is there an opensolaris distribution that is set up for headless NAS server. Also, did they ever port the Solaris ZFS setup Web Server that Jeff used in his father and son NAS setup cookbook video. Is there a cheap small case that can hold 4 or 5 Hard Drives? Or should I use a small case that holds only this board and the SSD and then buy a standard 4 or 5 bay sata drive enclosure and just hook the stuff up externally. Any thing else I should look at or watch out for? Thanks for any help. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
