module wasn't loaded. So, after I stopped messing around with /etc/driver_aliases I was able to get it to work.
pfexec update_drv -a -i '"pci1000,1021"' mega_sas The install went smoothly after that and the effect of that command persisted through reboot. I did file a defect at opensolaris.org, I'll update it with my resolution and hopefully this PCI setup will get updated in the next release.
