Have you checked the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log ? That file should give 
you more detail about what exactly failed. Have you successfully booted the 
OpenSolaris CD you are using on another computer? If you downloaded the CD 
image, did you verify the MD5 checksum of the ISO image you downloaded?

It might be helpful to post the output of /var/log/Xorg.0.log here so we can 
have a look.
