Folks,

I filed this as the following bug, but thought that perhaps someone here might
have some insight into this...

http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=10343

Note: prtconf-v for 2009.06 x8 slot 1, 2008.11 x8 slot 1, and 2008.11 x8 slot 2
are included with the filed bug report as an attachment at the above url.

======================================================================
A LSI SAS3801E (SAS HBA) card is placed into a Dell PowerEdge T105 server
running in 64-bit mode. This LSI card is 1068E-chipset based, and uses the Sun
mpt driver.

Basically, a configuration that worked in 2008.11 no longer works in 2009.06.

OPENSOLARIS 2009.06 BEHAVIOR (using Live-CD or install to hard disk):
In x8 slot #1, the mpt driver loads just fine. The "Device Driver Utility" is
happy as well -- all checks -- it binds to mpt0.

I have included the printconf -v output for the above case.

In x8 slot #2, and while booting Live-CD in text mode, we see that the machine
"hangs" at "Probing for device nodes..."

If booted with more logging, it appears that mpt0 is never configured... it
hangs at the point after sd2 is configured... this is where it would normally
configure mpt0 in my system.

Note, there are no drives connected to the card... and connecting drives
doesn't make the problem go away either.

Additionally, I have swapped the SAS controller card with another, and the same
result is achieved.

OPENSOLARIS 2008.11 BEHAVIOR (using Live-CD):
The card works in either x8 slot... and drives can be detected through the
card. In fact, I can use two SAS3801E cards in both slots -- both show up fine
and bind to mpt0 and mpt1.

I have also included the printconf -v outputs for both the x8 slot #1 and slot
#2 cases.

BTW, during all of the above cases, the onboard Broadcom ethernet controller
(BCM5722) was disabled (this has caused problems during the install, and is a
known bug).

Note: I also tried booting the Live-CD for OpenSolaris 2010.02 preview (build
118), i.e. the following iso:
http://genunix.org/distributions/indiana/osol-1002-118-x86.iso

The problem is still there in build 118; I can't get the card to work in x8
slot #2.
