I don't work for Sun and I'm not an IPS expert or Solaris expert by any means
(I'm actually a Linux / BSD / CISCO guy by profession). So, I'm just a random
person volunteering my time here in the hopes to improve my skills and learn
more about Solaris by helping people solve their problems.

Quick question: Were you on a wireless network when you tried to install the
IPS package?

What I think happened is that there is an IPS setting / tunable parameter
somewhere for how much latency is allowed in the network (i.e. a timer) and
there was some latency in the network somewhere that cause it to "time out"
before installing the package. I would imagine that we could change the value
for this IPS setting, this kind of problem wouldn't happen, but I don't know
where the knob to change the timeout setting is in OpenSolaris, so I don't know
how you would go about changing it.

In my experience, using a wireless network during certain weather conditions or
other kinds of interference can increase network latency A LOT, which is why I
asked if you were on a wireless network when you tried to install the package
earlier.
