I'm not 100% sure but I think the Dell PowerEdge 2400 has two Pentium III CPU's in it. I think in order for OpenSolaris's ZFS file system to work properly, you need at least a Pentium IV CPU and not a Pentium III. That server would probably be pretty rockin' though if you installed OpenBSD on it though:
http://www.openbsd101.com/ Other than that, you'd probably need an older version of Solaris like Solaris 8 or maybe Solaris 9 for x86, but I would probably just go with NetBSD or OpenBSD or FreeBSD as they seem to run well on ancient hardware like this. To be fair though, I don't think most other new operating systems like Mac OS X or Windows Vista will run on a Pentium 3 CPU either. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
