There is no DRI support for ATI Radeon 4xxx cards in any build yet. I'm not sure there's any DRI support for ATI Radeon cards that new even in the latest DRI experimental/development codebase for Linux.
That log though shows using the "radeon" driver instead of "vesa" - perhaps if you posted your entire Xorg.0.log to xwin-discuss you could get some more help there.
