Hi,
I've been away from opensolaris for quite a while (it is my winter project).
Anyway, I've built a file/itunes/tivo/backup server from SXDE as a Christmas
2007 project and stopped upgrading at SXDE snv_79a because it was stable and
met my needs (and the weather got warm).

Now that I have some time, I was looking to move to a later release.
Unsuspecting, I ordered the 2008.05 cd and popped it in. Much to my surprise,
I couldn't upgrade to it, as it only does fresh installs.

After much googling, it doesn't look like I have any path to get to 2008.05
beyond a wipe it/reinstall. I don't want to do this as I use the server as a
part of my household.

Is there a path to get me to a modern release of something without backing up
or losing some of the things I've had to build/configure?

I had avoided SXCE as I was looking for testing and stability. If SXCE is my
only upgrade path, are there any releases considered more stable than others.
My goal now is to get to a level where I can run virtual box and install a
windows print server, because I have the misfortune of having an HP
LaserJet1022 that appears to only be Windows friendly.

So, in a nutshell, I want to go from SXDE snv_79a to something that will
support virtual box without having to blow away my very painful builds of
mtdaapd (which I knew how to build 10 months ago, but probably can't reproduce).

Suggestions for this cold weather solaris enthusiast?
 Thanks,
Jim
