I was going to try something similar by installing OpenSolaris on an Acer Aspire 5040 that currently is running Slackware Linux on it, just need to upgrade the RAM to two gigs like you did before I'd feel comfortable with 2008.05 on it.
Anyway, I think Sun has drivers that might work with your Atheros wireless card. Check out this link: http://opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/wireless/ath/ Also, are you still dual-booting OpenSolaris with another operating system (like Microsoft Windows or Linux) where your network drivers still work? If so, reboot into the other operating system and run the The Sun Device Detection tool which you can get from the link below: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.jsp It might give you some good hints on where you can find the drivers you need.
