If you want to know how to do the mirrored level 1 ZFS software RAID with two or more drives check out this link below:
http://darkstar-solaris.blogspot.com/2008/09/zfs-root-mirror.html I'm pretty sure it's possible to do a full system backup and automated restore in Solaris 10 with a utility called "jumpstart". See the links below: http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1383 http://www.c0t0d0s0.org/archives/4734-Less-Known-Solaris-features-Jumpstart-Enterprise-Toolkit.html http://amorin.org/professional/jumpstart.php http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/jumpstart_x86_x64.jsp http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5506 http://www.deer-run.com/~hal/jumpstart/Jumpstart.pdf I know jumpstart definitely works in Solaris 10, but I've never heard of anybody using it in OpenSolaris 2008.05, as OpenSolaris Indiana seems to have a different installer program. However, since Solaris 10 does have ZFS support, you might be able to come up with something creative that works. Or you could just use the instructions in that very first link I posted to create an OpenSolaris zpool that is mirrored on 3 different hard drives. Make sure grub is installed on all 3 drives so you can boot up from any of them, then just remove one of the hard drives from the zpool, turn off your computer, remove the extra hard drive and put it in a fire-proof safe and your data is backed up. That's kind of like what those professional IT guys do with Acronis disk management technology: http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ Except you don't have to pay a thousand dollars for Acronis because OpenSolaris has an excellent ZFS disk mirroring technology built in to the operating system itself. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
