nslookup will not since it is a DNS command and nslookup is really a 
wrapper for  "dig" ....  The OS will use nsswitch.conf and search in the 
order given on the hosts and ipnodes options.

The "files" option will cause none DNS commands, ping etc. to look in 
/etc/hosts first and then the next naming service in line etc.  It stops 
at the first match found.
