Dear Mous :-) No problem with the internet connection. I had no problems with the laptop on the same connection (at a slightly different time) The download went fine it was the indexing that really crawled. It never seemed to totally fail but I needed a usable machine so reverted back to the previous OS. Tried again last night but when I got up this morning it had core dumped this time. I am beginning to think the fact the machine only has 500MB RAM could be the problem.
With hindsight: 834 root 686M 169M sleep 60 0 0:13:57 0.6% pkg/1 Seems problematic :-) The strange thing is prstat suggested the machine wasn't being hammered CPU wise. Thanks for taking an interest.
