I'm learning ZFS as well, so hopefully someone can confirm.... Use 'zpool import' to list importable pools, followed by 'zfs import pool-name-or-id [opt-new-name]'.
I note that you specifically mention that they are both root pools (rpool), are they both also named 'rpool'? I ask as I ran into difficulties last week using build 99. When I ran 'zfs import' no pools were listed. Yet when I booted from the OpenSolaris 2008.05 Live CD I was able to see both root pools with 'zpool import' and mount them using 'zpool import ID pool1'.
