A number of you may have noticed that there has been no CD media for Solaris
Express Community Edition (SXCE) for quite some time. This includes both x86
and SPARC. A couple of weeks ago, support for > 1TB disks was added to Nevada
(#6752824), causing the first CD to exceed the maximum size of the CD for x86.
There are no fixes for this available at this present time.

Given SPARC and x86 CD downloads count towards a very, very small fraction of
the download numbers each month, we have decided to postpone CD media for SXCE
for the indefinite future. While I can appreciate this may alienate a small
proportion of our user base, it is not in Sun's current best interests to
continue this given the large overhead in creating the CD media. We will
continue to provide CD media for OpenSolaris (the distribution available
through www.opensolaris.com) with the intention to provide full SPARC support
in OpenSolaris 2009.04 - a first phase being ready during the first part of
2009.

For those wishing to download and install a CD install image for x86, I would
recommend OpenSolaris 2008.11 which is due out later this month, or some of the
other distribution listed on http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/. Those
who unfortunately are in the position of requiring CD install media for SPARC,
I apologize but encourage you to closely monitor the efforts on indiana-discuss
at opensolaris.org as SPARC support is developed.
