Being on the side of a newbie on Solaris, I found this situation thrice now: It seems to be not possible to take a hard disk with a working installation of (Open?)Solaris and just plug it into another box ? Whenever I tried, the grub boot menu will come up, offering the respective version (SXDE, SXCE), and when activating it, the SUN-logo-background pops up for a second or two, and the machine reboots. Continuously. I can, though, activate the 'Failsave' version(s), and get to a prompt. But what to do then ? I was hoping on 'some activities' during this session, so that the real thing would come up next, but until now it didn't.
Can someone please explain (I'd like to understand) why this seems to be the case, at least here, and how to circumvent a fresh install in this situation. (I did it once for this reason, but on the long run it seems very boring to me if I had to do so.) Uwe This message posted from opensolaris.org
