[osol-help] no keyboard trying to install SXDE 09/07

Trying to install SXDE 09/07 on a lenovo T61 laptop, but I am unable to get a 
working keyboard. I've tried plugging in a usb keyboard and still the problem 
persists. The keyboard works at the grub screen but not anywhere afterwards. 
Are there any ways to fix / around this?
