No new technology - USB audio has been around a long time. It doesn't
look any different to the system just because it's packaged in a monitor;
the system probably doesn't even "know" that.

Can't tell you what's wrong, except that my experience with USB audio
on Solaris hasn't been all that impressive; it works, for simple (e.g. stereo,
but not 5.1 or 7.1) devices, but it glitches a lot more than an audio card
would.
But that's on a SPARC, and using the traditional SADA audio drivers. On x86,
many people have had better luck (with audio cards, don't know about USB)
with the OSS drivers (http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi), although I
personally don't think they're altogether mature on Solaris yet.

As root, the command

echo "::usba_device -v"|mdb -k

should provide considerable information about all USB devices on the system.
Please
redirect that into a file, and edit it down to only the section for your audio
device
before posting it. I'm certainly not suggesting that even if you do post it,
anyone will
necessarily be able to help (for sure I can't, since my only x86 is under
VirtualBox
on a Mac), but that probably is among the info that anyone that might be able to
help would want. Other possibly useful info might be the version of OpenSolaris
(uname -rv), and some info about the system (model, CPUs, RAM (since RAM
shortage affects performance), etc.

Cc'd a couple of other lists here that might get a more specific response.
