Hi, I've tried to install sol-10-u6-ga1-x86-dvd in a P-III test machine. But there is some bug in the installer. So, I've chosen OpenSolaris 2008.11 in favor of sol-10-u6.
Booted the OpenSolaris Live CD and proceeded to install the software. Installed it on 10GB partition, it was neat and clean install without ANY issues. But I need to install the audio and Ethernet drivers from the third party source (i knew the status from Sun Device Detection Tool. Till here it's fine. Next I've done the following: a) Installed kubuntu 8.04 in the MBR (there was no option to choose the boot loader from the Live cd. So it got installed in MBR)) b) Deleted MBR using fdisk /mbr (DOS boot CD) c) Installed OpenSuSE 11.1 in the MBR. d) Configured WinXP, OpenSolaris, FC9 and kbuntu in the OpenSuSE 11.1 GRUB e) All OSes are working fine. NOTE: Win XP and FC9 are always present and running. Here comes the problem: a) Switch on the PC b) Hit ENTER on OpenSolaris item of OpenSuSE GRUB c) OpenSolaris boot splash screen comes up with three GRUB menu items (default Solaris, tta and Windows XP) d) Now I hit ENTER on the default Solaris item. Here, PC appears to be booting. Only Boot screen progress bar is running for almost 1 hour....but OpenSolaris doesn't show up the Log In Manager :( Why is this happening please? Am so sad because I was so happy configuring and running all the OSes. Even I've ran test boot and boot off of the OpenSolaris before installing kbuntu and OpenSuSE. Just wondering why OpenSolaris is showing only Boot screen running for an hour but not invoking the Log In Manager. Any inputs? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
