Is there a way to simply have CIFS request authentication, and if the remote client provides a valid server-user login and password, then they will be given access as that server-user's UID and GID?
This seems so simple, and it seems like to would have broad application. I don't need to seamlessly and transparently integrate Windows and Solaris systems, and I don't have an Active Directory, or a Domain. Can this be done? Any suggestions?
